Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes Gabriel Martinelli should be a substitute for this weekend’s Premier League clash with Manchester City.
The Gunners opened their Champions League campaign with a goalless draw at Atalanta, only to escape defeat after David Raya saved Mateo Retegui’s penalty early in the second half, while Martinelli had a good chance to score but missed.
The Brazilian has now failed to score or provide an assist in 17 consecutive games, and Keown believes he should be a substitute against City but believes Mikel Arteta will continue to play.
“(Martin) Odegaard is a big loss for the team without a doubt because he makes the game flow so well,” Keown told TNT Sports. “His runs help (Bukayo) Saka, he opens up space for him and he can get the ball out.”
“Havertz had a few things to improve tonight. He didn’t move like he used to. The team tried to drop him. I don’t think it worked. You need a real striker. Maybe Trossard will come in at the weekend to fill that role.”
“Martinelli’s position is still questionable สมัคร ufabet. He needs to be more composed in front of goal, but I think the manager will keep him playing.”
